Note to self!

Please tag this post as you will probably need to refer to it at a later date. The following action items require your immediate attention:

  1. Acknowledge that you are a busy professional with too many items on her to-do list and that the process of completing these tasks is of far more significance than the act of completing them.
  2. Stop feeling guilty about unread RSS feeds, un-tweeted reflections, unwritten comments or posts, unheard conversations…
  3. Celebrate the daily learning that is integral to your well-being - professional, intellectual, emotional.

This is your to-do list, get to work!

I had never thought that this daily learning is “integral” to our well-being. Perhaps it’s there where the mystery lies.
I’ll tag this post too. To come back and read it when I feel overwhelmed.

I think this is a post we can all do with reading and remembering! How are you going with it? Its interesting you made this post just a few weeks before taking up a challenge to comment on (and therefore read) more blogs. Has that added to the ‘feeling guilty’ about RSS feeds etc :) ?

Hi Suzanne, nice to “meet” you! I’m doing pretty well with my “to-do” list (for me, anyway). I’m definitely getting over the “guilt.” The last time my RSS reader had over 1000 unread items, I held my breath, marked them all “read” and jumped in at that point. Twitter is giving me a sense of security - a feeling that if I pull back from time to time I won’t be totally out of the loop.

As for the Comment Challenge, timing is everything. Most of my current student projects are winding down so I’m not run off my feet at the moment. I’m able to enjoy the time I’m taking to read, write and reflect. Speaking of that I’m now heading over to your blog. See you there!

Thats great Dianne. I dread that day myself. I can be a bit compulsive sometimes - I always go back and ‘catch up’ on every page of my regular forums, rather than jumping in if Ive been away. I currently have 142 Cool Cat teacher blogs unread, and I cant bring myself to mark them read - Ill find the time to catch up sometime.. wont I? *sigh*

I think your new approach is better for your sanity.

I love this post. I need to read it repeatedly myself. One of the scariest things about the Comment Challenge is that I’ve learned how many insightful, intelligent, inspirational (for an alliterative list!) writers there are out there that I *should* be following. Clearly, I can’t catch them all, but learning is messy and acknowledging that truth is probably freeing. You’ve reminded me to focus on the fact that what I do learn is valuable, and that learning it all is impossible. Everything that I learn that helps the students and teachers I work with is worth it!

Sarah, we also need to learn to rely on the network we’ve been building through our blogs, twitter etc. We can and need to step back sometimes and call on our network to “fill us in”. Thanks for stopping by!
